Constipated infants supplemented with L. reuteri Protectis had a significantly higher frequency of bowel movements compared to the placebo group. Stool consistency improved significantly in the L. reuteri Protectis group, although no significant difference was seen compared to placebo.
Förstoppade spädbarn behandlade med L. reuteri Protectis hade en signifikant högre frekvens av tarmtömningar jämfört med placebogruppen. Även avföringens konsistens förbättrades signifikant i L. reuteri Protectis-gruppen, dock inte signifikant jämfört med placebogruppen.
Efter bara en veckas tillägg minskade den dagliga skriktiden med 74 % bland spädbarnen som fått L. reuteri Protectis jämfört med 38 % i placebogruppen. I slutet av studien konstateras en signifikant skillnad mellan de två grupperna. - Dessa resultat är i linje med tidigare studier på kolik och bekräftar nyttan av L. reuteri Protectis hos spädbarn med kolik, säger doktor Francesco Savino.
Lactobacillus reuteri Protectis reduced crying time in infants with colic. After only one week of supplementation the reduction in daily crying time was 74 % among the infants supplemented by L. reuteri Protectis compared to 38 % in the placebo group. At the end of the study there was a significant difference between the two groups.

BioGaia will host a satellite symposium with the title “Probiotics in paediatrics: from evolution to clinical practice” on June 10. The symposium will present the latest clinical data on L. reuteri Protectis and the latest opinion on probiotics in paediatrics.
BioGaia has signed an agreement with the Indonesian pharmaceutical company Interbat. They will sell BioGaia Probiotic Drops in Indonesia beginning in 2011.
